Tonight Eric welcomes Back
Lilith Beest (aka Lil' Beesty) to talk about Halloween 2018 (the movie, not the holiday). Eric and Lil are both huge fans of Halloween 1978, but will they share the same passion for the latest entry?

Spoiler: No, they will not. One will love it, one will tolerate it. They'll also give their thoughts on Jamie Lee Curtis, the motivations of Michael Myers and the sad state of the mental health profession as represented by all Halloween movies.

I think you need to re-analyze the original Halloween because I think John Carpenter cleverly reveals throughout the movie that Michael is not just some psychotic killer but is indeed supernatural.

Case in point, he knows how to drive....despite being incarcerated since he was 6.That's the first hint that Michael is not just another loony killer.

Dr. Loomis literally states that his eyes are just plain and simply evil. I recall that you laughed how Dr. Loomis is not an ideal doctor because of how he's acting hysterical and wants to kill his patient....I think it wise if you stopped for a moment and explored what would cause a typical psychiatrist to act out of the ordinary...perhaps witnessing an extraordinary thing...like seeing the pure essence of evil.

Also, when Michael effortlessly lifts a man of similar stature in the air with one and stabs him in mid-air....that's another clue, Michael is a bit more than just a psycho killer.

Then despite being stabbed in the neck, eye, shot six times by a revolver and falling down a two story house (with nothing to break his fall) which would guarantee a broken back and/or neck, gets up and leaves in a matter of seconds.

Michael was intended to be supernatural from the start. Much like the 2018 sequel.

Now with regards to Halloween 2018 ---

The movie was no masterpiece but I think you missed a crucial part of the movie regarding the granddaughter that will perhaps make you change your interpretation of the ending.

If you are a Halloween-fanatic you essentially see that this movie pays a lot of homage to the entire franchise in almost every significant scene. From exploding pumpkins (Halloween part 3), the evil psychiatrist (rob zombie's Halloween) (the dress up nurse (part 2), getting run over (part 4) the two idiotic cops (part 5) etc., and a whole lot more.

Michael killed anyone that got in his way in the slightest. I have little doubt to think that if the baby's crib was in his way from exiting the home, the baby would have died as well.

However, he completely ignores Alison even though she's sitting right beside him in the car. She is never threatened in any way from Michael. In fact, he kills the boy that "harmed" Alison.

The evil psychiatrist is spared the first time, as it's stated that he was the one that orchestrated Michael's escape. Only when the doctor was a threat to Alison did Michael resort to squashing his head and he seemed to be somewhat reluctant to do so (much the same way that Michael always seemed reluctant or exercised leniency when it came to Dr. Loomis)

If you notice, when Alison is running in the streets no one is actually chasing her.

When Michael wakes up inside the police car, he puts his mask on and attacks the doctor instead of Alison.

When Alison runs off, Michael doesn't stalk her, he never even seems bothered by her in the least. Nevermind that she's the reason the sheriff tracked him, and why the entire public is aware of his presence. If anyone is going to feel his wrath by this it's going to be Alison. Yet, she is spared.

After Michael is lured into the trap and falls down the stairs and plays possum Alison walks pass him no problem but Michael only grabs Karen's leg. Karen and Laura are both actual direct victims of Michael except Alison.

I believe this was all by design and not happenstance.

Alison = Jamie Strode.

She has the knife because the knife symbolizes the evil within Michael Meyers will now transfer over or awaken in Alison. Just how Halloween Part 4 ended when Jamie murdered her foster mom. Michael never ever directly attacks Jamie in part 4....he is always attacking those in his away or around Jamie. It seems like the whole motivation for Michael was to transfer/share the evil with Jamie. Perhaps Michael's body served it's purpose and became too old and worn and Jamie was going to be the new host so-to-speak.

Now admittedly part 5 is where the filmmakers shit the bed and decided to revert back to Michael as they didn't want to risk angering the fans yet again like they did with Halloween 3 (a Michael-less sequel).

I believe this time with the whole feminist agenda in full effect now, we will have a Michael-less Halloween franchise (ala the Saw series) where Hollywood will now attempt to make Halloween brand the star and not Michael Myers. Just how they planned to do so 30 years ago.

Whatever makes Michael Myers into "The Shape" will now possess Alison.

Besides, Michael literally lost the use of one of his hands....I don't see a one-handed Michael Myers roaming Haddonfield working in the sequel.

She serves no real purpose except to be used as an exposition device the entire movie. However, I think the main reason the writer's put such a useless character like Alison was that she is being set up as the new Michael Myers.
